This week someone asked me: can you choose who can see your content on LinkedIn?
The answer is both yes and no.
You cannot choose specifically who sees your posts on your personal profile. When you create a post, it will be presented to your network. Depending on how active you are on LinkedIn, a certain percentage of your network will see your post.
You cannot ‘hide’ your post from a particular person. For example, if you are working in a senior position at an organisation, building your business on the side and don’t want your boss to see your posts, well there is not much you can do about it. Apart from disconnecting from them.
Bear in mind, even if your boss is not in your network, they may be connected to others in your network. People who are your Second Level Connection can also see your content on LinkedIn.
- First level connections are the people you are connected to.
- Second level connections are those who are connected to your connections.
How to choose who can see your content on LinkedIn
When you start your post, you will see a drop down menu at the top.

Click on the ‘Anyone’ button beside your name.
Then you can choose who can see your post.

The only way to keep that news about your new side hustle business away from your boss, is to talk about it inside a LinkedIn group that they aren’t part of.
